Heswall Primary School scoops national eco award

Heswall Primary School have scooped a national award for their tireless work to protect the environment and biodiversity globally.

The school were invited to the prestigious National Eco-Schools Awards ceremony, hosted by author and presenter, Steve Backshall. This in recognition of the dedicated work they do to raise awareness on environmental matters, picking up the ‘National Biodiversity Award’ on the day.

Over the last three years the school have been busy raising awareness about the importance of animal conservation locally and globally through a range of events and mini campaigns. The school even partnered up with a school in Uganda to work collaboratively on conservation projects and helped to raise funds for the building of water harvesters.

This year the school developed its own film titled ‘Extinction is forever’ , which looked at local extinction and the beauty of Wirral but also global projects. The film was premiered at their very own ‘Science under the Stars’ event which saw more than 1200 attend.

Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging children across 67 countries, to develop pupil’s skills and raises awareness on environmental matters.
