Wirral sweeps up In Bloom awards

Post by Wirral Council News » Fri Nov 22, 2019 12:26 pm

Dozens of community-based groups across Wirral are celebrating after winning awards at the North West In Bloom competition.

It is the fourth year in a row Wirral has seen success in the prestigious competition which applauds those areas which add a little extra colour to residents’ lives.

31 groups across Wirral received awards for their fantastic projects at the North West In Bloom Competition Awards Ceremony.

Royal Horticultural Society judges had visited Wirral during the summer to examine the creativity and imagination that went into the numerous competition entries.

The judges met residents involved in the projects as they looked for entries which made a real difference to areas through the imaginative use of planting and landscaping, while also encouraging a litter free and sustainable environment.

In the Your Neighbourhood Awards, entries from Wirral saw eight groups rated Outstanding, 11 won the Thriving award, six groups were rated Advancing and two Wirral groups achieved the Improving award.

In the Village in Bloom category the successful entries Oxton scooped the gold prize, while Wirral Parks took silver and bronze went Hoylake’s The Ship Inn. Hillside School took the School award. In addition Wirral was awarded a Silver Cup in the North West in Bloom Competition for the ‘large city’ category.

Joanna Burrell, Birkenhead Constituency Manager for Wirral Council, said: “This is a fantastic achievement in what is a very competitive awards ceremony. Wirral was well represented and swept the board.

“Many of the projects involve a number of partners working together for the benefit of their communities and have improved the environment, provided a platform for volunteering and improved well-being of residents.

“Everyone involved should feel proud of their hard work and I hope their success encourages even more people to join in next year to give their local areas a real boost.’
