Our Borough of Culture year enters its final chapter

Post by Wirral Council News » Thu Oct 03, 2019 11:59 am

Wirral's Borough of Culture year is entering its final chapter, with an exciting season inspired by the moon and stars starting from 5 October.

Just announced is a Liverpool City Region-wide series called Constellations, which will bring a different artist to each borough. In West Kirby, Joanie Lemercier will create a stunning 16-minute audio visual installation projected onto a wall of water particles, journeying through the universe at Marine Lake from Friday 18 – Sunday 20 October.

What’s On

Saturday 5 October: Mooncamp Community Day – Wirral Country Park, Thurstaston
Friday 18 – Sunday 20 October: Constellations Presents: Studio Joanie Lemercier – Marine Lake, West Kirby
Friday 25 October – Friday 15 November: Museum of the Moon – Birkenhead Town Hall
Sunday 3 November: River of Light – New Brighton waterfront
Three fantastic exhibitions have also recently opened at the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum which run until Sunday 24 November. Distinctly explores British culture and communities through the lenses of 10 of Britain’s most notable documentary photographers, while Women of Iron captures the female workforce at Cammell Laird during the final stages of the RRS Sir David Attenborough’s construction – with photos taken by young women photographers from Wirral. Internationally-renowned, Wirral-born artist Christian Furr (the youngest artist to paint HM Queen Elizabeth II) has also returned to the borough for a retrospective of his varied artwork.

These free events will be a fantastic end to what’s been an unprecedented year of culture and creativity for the borough - celebrating discovery, exploration and the great outdoors. Do try and make it along to as many of them as you can! For more information, visit imaginewirral.com.
