Residents can swim and gym with Wirral Leisure as facilities are planned for reopening in April

Post by Wirral Council News » Thu Apr 01, 2021 4:36 pm

Preparations are underway to reopen swimming and gym facilities in Wirral in line with the Government’s proposed easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

Wirral Leisure facilities planned to reopen from Monday 12 April, include:

Swimming at Europa, West Kirby and Guinea Gap Leisure Centres
Gyms at Bidston Tennis Centre, West Kirby and Guinea Gap Leisure Centres
The proposed reopening is in line with the next step in the Government’s roadmap to lift COVID-19 restrictions. The Government is expected to confirm whether the next step can go ahead, on Monday 5 April, but the council is making preparations in advance to give customers as much notice as possible.

Also planned to be reinstated from Monday 12 April are indoor tennis at Bidston Tennis Centre (booking restrictions apply in line with government guidance) and swimming lessons at Europa Pools, West Kirby and Guinea Gap Leisure Centres. Updates on swimming lessons are available at https://wirralleisure.co.uk/swimming-lessons/ and the Swim Wirral team can be contacted by email swimwirral@wirral.gov.uk.

At Wirral’s facilities, all fitness activities must still be booked in advance.

Pre booking and payment is essential before attending any facility or activity, either on a pay and play basis or with an Invigor8 membership. Bookings for swimming and gym can be made from Wednesday 7 April, if Government gives the go ahead to reopen.

To make a booking, visit Wirral Leisure online  or ring the team on 0151 606 2010. Phone lines are operated: Monday to Thursday, 9am to 7pm, Friday, 9am to 5pm and Saturday to Sunday, 9am to 3pm.

For more information on the facilities available or to sign up for a membership visit www.wirralleisure.co.uk. Suspended memberships can be reinstated by telephone or emailing the Leisure team on bookingsandinformation@wirral.gov.uk.

The council is working towards opening further leisure facilities from 17 May in line with the government’s road map. However, it may not be possible to reopen all facilities as many of the authority’s employees, including a substantial number of leisure staff, are working in other services to support the council’s COVID-19 response. A number of key leisure buildings, including The Oval, Leasowe and Woodchurch, are also operating as vaccination centres, testing sites and support services meaning that not all activities at these sites will be reopening straight away.

The dates within the national road map are subject to change and will be confirmed at a national level before definite announcements can be made. More information on the projected dates for the government’s four-step plan can be found by visiting the government’s website.
