Live chat service to offer young people a listening ear

Post by Wirral Council News » Wed Oct 07, 2020 12:55 pm

Children and young people who need advice and support can now speak to an experienced local advisor via an online chat service.

Additional to the existing dedicated freephone helpline launched in May, the live chat is staffed by professionals who work in Wirral children and youth services, and can be accessed via an existing Wirral Council website.

The online service will be available to offer support Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm, and sits alongside the council’s dedicated freephone helpline available for the same hours.

Staff will be there to speak online and on the phone to any young person who needs to talk. All chats are confidential, unless the discussion raises serious concerns about the welfare of a child or young person.

Cllr Tom Usher, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “We know that the last few months have been difficult and confusing for many young people, and we wanted to make it easier for them to get in touch if they have concerns, questions or worries.

“I hope the new live chat makes them feel comfortable getting in touch if they need to – we have a friendly team ready to answer their questions, and no problem is too big or too small.”

Outside of these hours young people can contact Child Line every day until midnight 0800 1111.
