West Kirby Concourse fitness suite is back

Post by Wirral Council News » Mon Aug 24, 2020 4:46 pm

The fitness suite at West Kirby Concourse will welcome back gym-goers from 26 August as essential building upgrades are now complete.

Opening hours will be from 8am – 9pm, Monday to Friday and 9am – 4pm at weekends with a new booking system in place to make sure the number of people in the gym remain at safe levels.

As with other leisure services such as Golf and outdoor exercise classes, Invigor8 memberships can be reinstated on request by emailing bookingsandinformation@wirral.gov.uk and casual sessions can be booked online for £7.50 (adult), £4.50 (junior) and £5.60 (WPA).

Full COVID-19 safety guidelines can be found on the Wirral Leisure website and should be read in full before arriving at the gym, but the highlights are:

Anyone wanting to use the fitness suite at West Kirby Concourse, will need to pre-book a slot through the Wirral Leisure website and will need to have an up-to-date induction to use the equipment.
Some equipment has been temporarily removed from the gym to allow enough space between equipment for social distancing.
All sessions will start on the hour and last a maximum of 50 minutes to allow enough time for extra cleaning and a safe turnaround gym-goers between sessions.
Gym-goers must arrive at the leisure centre ‘workout-ready’ as the changing rooms are temporarily out of use.
The swimming pool also remains temporarily out of use while staff complete the necessary training needed to open it safely.

Cllr Julie McManus, Wirral’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “I’m sure this is welcome news to our members and casual users.

“I know it has been difficult not being able to use the gym, but we had to make sure our leisure facilities are as safe as they possibly can be.

“Work to upgrade the ventilation systems at our other leisure centres continues and we will announce further re-openings soon. Thank you to everyone who uses are leisure facilities for their patience and understanding.”

The concourse was closed at the start of the COVID-19 lockdown but has not been able to reopen until now while essential building upgrades were made.

The ventilation systems in Wirral’s council-owned leisure centres needed to be upgraded in line with the latest government guidelines and work continues in the council’s other leisure facilities.

There’s also more than 30 outdoor exercise classes each week for those who prefer to be outdoors or aren’t ready to attend an indoor fitness suite yet. Wirral Leisure website has the full timetable of classes.
