Lighting up our library offer

Post by Wirral Council News » Wed Oct 16, 2019 12:57 pm

Libraries across the Liverpool City Region have teamed up to share books and resources for residents living in each of the local authority districts - meaning library members in Wirral can take out books in Liverpool, Sefton and beyond.

Known as Library Light, the new scheme is open to borrowers in Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral.

Library Light allows readers to borrow up to six books from any library and provides access to its computers and printers (charges may apply for printing). Books can be reserved by contacting the library directly and need to be returned to the library they are borrowed from.

Cllr Julie McManus, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said:

“The new libraries scheme is a great example of partnership working across the City Region. It broadens the offer available to residents, makes learning and discovery even easier for borrowers, and provides thousands of resources at the click of a button.

“We’re proud to showcase what our library service has to offer our Liverpool neighbours."

Once residents are signed up, they also have access to the libraries’ online borrowing systems, including Wirral’s e-books, e-magazines and e-audio titles – which can be borrowed for free for seven, 14 or 21 days and automatically expire at the end of the loan period, meaning no more library fines!

Residents can join Library Light by presenting their Wirral library card to staff in any of the City Region libraries and providing their name and address details. Those under the age of 16 will need parental or guardian consent.
