Last call for grant applications to fund refugee support projects

Post by Wirral Council News » Mon Oct 07, 2019 2:16 pm

The deadline is fast approaching for local organisations to bid for small grants to carry out programmes or initiatives that will assist people seeking refuge or asylum in Wirral.

Projects have until this Friday – 11th October – to submit their bids for grants to help deliver successful outcomes for refugees, asylum seekers or other vulnerable migrants to the borough in one or more key areas.

Those five key themes are detailed in the Council’s Wirral Refugee and Asylum Seeker Action Plan 2019-2025 and each is focused on work to enable families and individuals to integrate successfully into British life.

The five areas are:-

English of Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Social bridges and bonds
Each of these themes will be regularly reviewed and updated as work progresses.

The grants on offer are for up to two years and are designed to support organisations to address actions identified within each thematic area of the action plan.

Cllr Stuart Whittingham, Wirral Council Cabinet member for Housing and Planning, said: “This action plan is closely linked to the updated Liverpool City Region Syrian Resettlement Programme Action Plan, which identified these five key themes are being essential for improved outcomes for people coming to the area to start a new life.

“We are now looking to hear from organisations across the borough who can help us to provide sustainable help and support for these people over the next two years.”
