Our Girl coming to Birkenhead

Post by Wirral Council News » Tue May 14, 2019 10:17 am

Birkenhead library is hosting a Sunday matinee gig for another up and coming indie-rock band in June.

Brighton-based trio Our Girl will be performing an intimate show on Sunday June 2nd in collaboration with Get It Loud In Libraries. Doors open at 2.30pm.

The band, made up of real-life best friends, singer and guitarist Soph Nathan (also of The Big Moon), drummer Lauren Wilson and bassist Josh Tyler, have already been making waves with their debut 2015 single, Sleeper, described by the NME as a ‘misty masterclass in dreamy shoegaze’ and their first EP Normally branded ‘phenomenal’ by the same publication in 2016.

The band further explored their gritty, rock style with heartfelt, hushed vocals on their 2018 debut album Stranger Today, which was produced by the acclaimed Wirral musician and producer, Bill Ryder-Jones (ex-Coral).

The album received overwhelmingly positive reviews and was described by one listener as ‘a strong record with memorable melodies… and some of the best guitar playing you’ll hear this year’ (Lizzie Manno, Paste).

In June of this year, the band are bringing their cathartic grunge stylings to Birkenhead Library. The venue has already hosted Get It Loud In Libraries gigs by post-punk band BODEGA and Amsterdam indie-rockers Pip Blom, who’s recent sold out matinee show was described as ‘deeply satisfying… and uniquely thrilling’ (Paul Fitzgerald, Getintothis).

A matinee gig is a perfect, family-friendly activity on a usually quiet Sunday afternoon and the perfect opportunity to bring Our Girl’s ‘precocious live energy’ and ‘heartfelt songwriting’ (Robin Murray, CLASH) to a brand-new audience in Birkenhead.

Tickets for Our Girl’s gig at Birkenhead Library on 2nd June, 2019 are on sale here. For all upcoming Get it Loud in Libraries gigs see their website and additional photos are available here. For more information, please contact stewart.parsons@loudinlibraries.com.
