Weather warning for Wirral

Post by Wirral Council News » Tue Jan 29, 2019 3:47 pm

With icy conditions expected later this afternoon - and the significant prospect of further snow or wintry showers into the evening and overnight - Wirral Council are putting plans in place designed to try and minimise disruption for residents.

Our forecast shows that clearer skies later this afternoon will result in road surface temperatures dropping below zero and a significant risk of ice forming. Showers are predicted to follow into the evening and overnight, mostly falling as snow, particularly from mid-evening onwards, resulting in some accumulations. It is likely to stay cold and showery into tomorrow morning.

The council's gritters are in action from 4pm today treating all ten main routes and four mini-routes this afternoon with a 20mg2 spread of salt ahead of the forecast drop in temperatures later. They will repeat rounds as required round the clock.  href="Check" target="_blank" title="">Check">">Check out where, when and why we grit here.

Council transport service

Due to the potential adverse weather conditions and the uncertainty of the extent of any potential snowfall, there is a possibility that the Council-provided SEND transport to schools and colleges, and transport to day centres may be cancelled. An update will be provided here in the morning if any disruption is likely.
