Unpasteurised Milk

Post by diggingdeeper » Mon Jul 14, 2014 2:48 am

Currently in England it is illegal to sell unpasteurised milk in supermarkets and shops, it is permitted to be sold directly to the consumer from specially checked suppliers although it has to be labelled "this product has not been heat-treated and may contain organisms harmful to health".

This limitation is currently under review despite the risks of bacterial diseases such as E. coli, Listeria, and Salmonella.

I can't understand why anyone would want to risk this, since the introduction of pasteurisation milk is something that is generally very safe, if people really want it, it is available, we have enough outbreaks of food related diseases in recent times, why go back to the Victorian times with our health and hygiene?
